I am very excited to say that we will be starting a Kapa Haka group this term for those who wish to be involved. The aim is to perform at Taiopenga in October. This is a local cultural festival held at the Clubs of Marlborough.
Children will perform in their school uniform and we will be making poi this term. I asked some of the students last term what they would like to do a haka about, as this is an opportunity for the boys to tell a story or share something important and they all said 'Daniel!!’, the message being putting God first, no compromise. What a great message to share. We expect practices to be on Thursday lunchtimes.
The Kapa Haka group will be open to all students.
The proposed performance program will be as follows:
Coral: E Te Ariki or Wairua Tapu
Poi: I'll make up poi action for them to learn while singing the Alphabet song.
Action song: I'd like to make up actions for 'E toru mga mea' or teach the students how to use rakau (sticks).
Haka: Yet to be written.
Exit song: The Lords prayer in Maori, with a student saying a whaikorero while the introduction is being sung. Then the students will come forward and sign and sing the rest of the song.
