Computerised
Audio Books
One
advantage with the computer age and the internet is that we now
have a facility whereby children can listen to a book
previously recorded and downloadable for free. Books in
this category and many and varied, but include classics such as
Tom Sawyer, Treasure Island, White Fang and Alice in
Wonderland.
These
books are normally on MP3 files and so do not take long to
download.
Children
being read to in very good educationally and socially.
The best person to read to them is Mum or Dad, particularly
from the social perspective. However being read to gets
the children's imagination going and also really adds to their
vocabulary knowledge. Being read to is just so much more
valuable that watching TV.
Obviously
these audio books should NEVER take the place of
children reading their own books. Getting children into
the habit of reading their own books establishes them in this
skill like no other, and also has many other benefits.
If
you are too busy to read regularly to your children, you may
like to consider this audio book option.
There
are a number of site where this service is available for free.
