Reading
Tests
During
term 1 each year, the school carries out reading tests on all
the students. Individual testing is done at other times
during the year, but this early testing helps us to establish
our reading programmes for individuals and groups of students.
This
year the school carried out the Star Reading Tests, a
nationally benchmarked test which measures a range of reading
skills including decoding of text, and the understanding of the
text. The Star tests are from Year 3 and above.

The
"average" New Zealand student scores a stanine of 5.
Our school is somewhat above average as we have 22% below
average and 61% above average. This is shown more clearly
in the following graph which shows our reading levels when
compared with the national bell curve that statistics give.
The graph indicates that we have fewer students below the
stanine of 5, and more students getting above the stanine of 5
when compared with the national bell curve.

Progress
and Achievement Tests: (PATs)
These
are nationally benchmarked tests in English and Maths that we
carry out during term 1 each year. The following graph
shows our results when compared with the national standards.

These
PATs results indicate that we are producing good results in the
core academic areas of literacy and numeracy. The red
normalised standard show the results across the whole country,
and our results are in blue. The national average stanine
is 5, and as can be seen, our graphs have all moved towards the
right, indicating that we are above average.
It
must be remembered that our results are taken from a relatively
small population, and so statistically carry a high level of
uncertainty. However I do believe that they
indicate generally that we are doing quite well.
